Zagreb
First mentioned in the 11th century, Zagreb originates from two medieval settlements – Kaptol and Gradec. Kaptol was the seat of the the bishop while Gradec was the political center where the governor had his palace. The two towns fought many bloody battles until they finally united in 1850. Ever since, Zagreb is the political, cultural and economical center of Croatia, its capital and largest city.
